Considering counselling
It may be that you have reached a time where you need the help of another to reflect, and to find a way to move forward. Friends and family are a support but you may need additional contact outside your usual networks. Seeking counselling at times like these is common, as we instinctively know we need the presence of a non-judgemental other to help us re-consider.
It may be that you are struggling with anxiety or depression, health issues or things arising from life changes. Specific challenges such as redundancy or relationship breakdown can trigger emotional responses which are extremely hard to cope with. It may also be that you have a more undefined sense of dissatisfaction, and wish to explore ideas which will strengthen you.
It would be understandable that things that have previously felt manageable for you have been exacerbated by this unique time, when many of our support systems and routines have fallen away. The therapeutic relationship can offer a safe and reliable space for you to feel strengthened.
I believe in the potential of each of us, and work with a belief that this can thrive. Being an integrative counsellor means that I offer a combination of approaches in response to each client's needs and experience. I have supported clients for over nine years with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, anger-management, relational trauma and struggles arising from life events such as redundancy or loss.
Testimonial from a recent client:
I have been on the most beautiful journey with Maura over the last 5/6 months and if I wasn’t leaving Brighton, I would continue my sessions with her, no question.
I have seen therapists in this field of work before, and I have never been in the presence of somebody who is as grounded, gentle and compassionate as Maura. She surfaced within me, positivity and self-love that was there the whole time but just needed specific guidance, understanding and incredible listening skills, such as Maura’s, to surface it. I have also never shared such personal information and stories with somebody whose memory holds such extensive detail. She showed endless care and understanding from the beginning to the end of our journey, however always gently invited me to share her alternative perspectives on things if she felt necessary – it were these perspectives that produced such a positive shift in me.
I was genuinely sad to draw our sessions to a close and I would recommend her highly to anyone who struggles to express themselves and therefore needs a warm and caring hand.
